IMPORTANT NOTICE – COVID-19
The Government issued advice about the response to Coronanvirus, in particular:
1) Avoid social contact with the general public.
THE COMMITTEE AGREED TO SUSPEND ALL CLUB MEETINGS FOR THE FORESEEABLE FUTURE, AND CANCEL FUTURE DISCUSSION GROUPS, IT MEETINGS AND OUTINGS. Note: The club will arrange a number of zoom virtual meetings which will be communicated to all members via this website and individual e-mails.
The past few months have been difficult for all members, particularly since the scope for helping each other is limited by the Government guidance.
Committee members are keeping in touch with each other by phone and email and trying to maintain the ethos of the Club remotely. The website is a useful focus during this period.
EACH COMMITTEE MEMBER HAS AGREED TO KEEP IN TOUCH WITH THEIR OWN DESIGNATED MEMBERS ON A REGULAR BASIS.
The list of committee members and designated members is currently under review.
Passports may be the last thing on people’s mind at present but if we get the green light that we can travel the Passport Office could be inundated. This is particularly so because UK passports will only be accepted for entry by EU countries for 10 years from the date of issue. In a recent members case their wife’s passport did not expire until September 2022 it was issued in January 2012. Therefore the EU would treat it as expiring in January 2022. As you need at least six months remaining on your passport to travel that would have ruled her travelling this summer. She applied for a new passport – it took less than two weeks to arrive as is one of the new BLUE British Passports. The member reported that renewal was so easy and the Passport Office not being so busy at present.

NEW MEMBERS WELCOME
WHO ARE WE, AND HOW DO I JOIN?
The Knutsford Rex Probus Club is a group of friendly men from professional, business and trading backgrounds who are looking for interesting and lively retirement activities. We have members who were farmers, engineers, lawyers, architects, planners, accountants, doctors, managers and so on. You don’t have to live in Knutsford to join!
WHAT IS OUR AIM?
Our aim is to promote the well-being of our members through interesting social activities and congenial companionship. Membership of the Club is limited to 60 people aged 55 or over, fully or partly-retired, to encourage and promote friendly fellowship. We always keep a few vacancies open for new members. The most important difference compared to other organisations for retired men is that because we limit our membership to 60, we create a warm and welcoming ambience in which each member is valued and involved.
WHAT DO WE DO?
Members normally meet in the morning on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month for coffee and a friendly chat, followed by a brief Club Business Meeting in which our many forthcoming activities are set out, and then a talk by an excellent invited speaker. After that the bar is open for a further hour for further socialising. In addition we run a wide range of special interest groups, including Walks, Bowls, Bridge, Golf, IT and Computers, a full Social Events programme, and a Discussion Group. We meet at the Mere and Tabley Community Club, Chester Road, Mere, Knutsford WA16 0PU.
HOW DO I JOIN?
Joining is really very simple. As we operate as private members’ Club, we would like you to come along as our guest to a couple of our Thursday General Meetings, so that you can get to know us and we can get to know you. If you like what you see, you then complete a Nomination Form, and we introduce you at the next meeting as a joining member. To start the simple process, just email the Club Secretary (firstname.lastname@example.org).
