Click on Title to expand………The club lost another member with the death of 85 year old Barry Drew, who had been a member for eight years. Phil Robson paid tribute to him at the last meeting and a minute’s silence was held in memory of him.

Peter Willis was welcomed back after a long period of illness and the chairman disclosed that Kevin Willett had suffered a stroke and was in Stepping Hill Hospital.

The discussion group will resume meetings on   January 8 when the subject will be “Politics-Do We Need a Shake-up of Our Attitude to Parliament”.

On the walks side Jerry Bentley said that the round trip on January 3 will be about 5 miles from the Axe and Cleaver in Dunham Massey mainly using the Trans Pennine Way and the towpath of the Bridgewater Canal.

The speaker at the last meeting was Gordon Bartley and his subject “Flying’s a Wonderful Thing”. He was an Air Force Cadet in the fifties, obtained a private pilot’s licence and spent his business career with BAe. He was also a keen photographer and when he was made redundant he became a lecturer and a freelance aircraft photographer.

Mr Bartley gave members a comprehensive history of aircraft through the ages backed up by photograph images mainly taken by him.
