The wet weather has hit the Bowls team and several matches have had to be postponed because of the conditions. But they did manage to play Fulshaw Wilmslow Probus but lost 105-94.

The IT group discussed home security at their last meeting. The covered basic intruder alarms up to doorbells with a built-in video camera connected to the internet.

Don Johnson, a retired Consultant Psychiatrist, led the Discussion Group’s topic on gender and transsexual relationships and provided members with a detailed background from his experience. The discussion led to views on same sex relations with all its implications.

Andy Whitaker followed initiating a discussion on the transport of Jewish children out of Nazi Germany in 1938 to the UK where they were adopted by Jewish residents.

The walkers had problem on their  walk at Dunham Massey. The rain had caused the River Bollin to overflow  its banks and the planned route from The Swan With Two Nicks had to be changed  as the pathways were unpassable. Nevertheless they managed to use the Bridgewater Canal towpath to get to The Axe and Cleaver  pub for lunch.

The President reported at the last meeting that members enjoyed a two hour cruise on the Steam Tug “Danny”, originally built in 1903 to work on the Shropshire Canal. Now restored by volunteers they travelled from Acton Bridge lock to Sutton Weaver.

The speaker at the meeting was Ron Woodcock ,a vice President of the British Interplanetary Society, who gave an interesting talf on “From Apollo to the First Space Shuttle”,  During the Seventies he had access to the press areas at Cape Kennedy and his talk was backed up  by .photographs and remarkable videos of the fscilitiesd there for the launching of the rockets,
