The Club’s final meeting of 2019 was on 12th December 2019 prior to which there was a meeting of the IT group that discussed “Online Privacy and Surveillance Capitalism”. There was an external speaker, Geoff Scargill, whose subject was “Christmas Words and Music”. Geoff focussed on the meaning of Christmas and included Christmas music. Geoff is a former teacher at Chetham’s School of Music where he is now a volunteer Heritage Guide. The presentation was particularly uplifting coming as it did on General Election Day!

The highlight of the month was the Club’s Christmas lunch at Statham Lodge in Lymm with 75 attendees. The final event of 2019 was “Christmas at Tatton”, with over 60 attendees, starting with a tour of the house set up for Christmas and a seasonal performance of the Northern Chamber Orchestra and a local school choir. Other activities in the month included the Christmas walks in Tatton Park followed by lunch at Giovanni’s. Also, there was indoor bowling at Owley Wood Club and a 4 mile walk at Haslington, followed by lunch. In all, 2019 has been a busy year for the Club which is now in its 52nd year.

In January 2020 there will be two Club Meetings with external speakers, firstly the “Anderton Boat Lift” by Dave Thomas and secondly, “Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral” by Philip Harrison. There will also be three 5 mile walks and the annual afternoon tea, at Knutsford Golf Club.
