Knutsford Rex Probus Club is for fully-retired or partly-retired professional or business men who live in or near Knutsford, Cheshire.
Its aim is to promote the well-being of the members through interesting social activities and congenial companionship.
Membership is limited to 60 people aged 55 or over, thereby encouraging and promoting fellowship. We always make sure that we hold a few vacancies for new members.
Our Club was inaugurated by the Knutsford Rotary Club in 1968, as a Discussion Group for those executives who had retired from business. For that reason it was known as the Retired Executives’ Club, or Rex for short. Numbers quickly expanded.
Coincidentally, at about the same time, a new UK-wide movement was being created for Professional Businessmen, or ProBus for short, and eventually Knutsford Rex Club became Knutsford Rex Probus Club with a much-expanded role encompassing a wide variety of activities and interests.
Members join in twice-monthly General Meetings at Mere & Tabley Community Club (Previously known as Mere Parish Club) for a social coffee and a chat, followed by a brief Club business meeting setting out forthcoming activities, and then by a talk from an excellent invited speaker. After that, the bar is open for those who wish to continue with the social side of our activity.
Mere & Tabley Community Club (Previously known as Mere Parish Club) is accessed from the A50 coming from Knutsford, by a road on the left hand side, just before the main junction with the A556.
In addition to these regular meetings, we encourage members to participate in our regular special topics, which include:
In addition we do proactively keep widows of past-members involved in appropriate activities.
Perhaps the most important difference is that because we limit our membership to 60 people, we create a warm and welcoming ambience in which each member is valued and involved.
