Thursday 23rd November 2023 – Club Meeting – Speaker, Mr Michael Gibson, who gave a talk entitled ‘Beowulf’s Boxer Shorts’.
Michael explained that he was a Poetician who specialised in Anglo Saxon poems. Several examples were shown in Old English which he attempted to translate. Michael also entertained the members by playing a pipe and a lyre of music from that era.
Thursday 16th November 2023 – Walk – Thelwall
The Rex Walkers Group took a familiar trail to walk around Thelwall. Members starting from completed the Little Manor pub they set off for a 4 mile walk along the Bridgewater Canal and Trans
Pennine Trail. They were later joined by 2 further members for an excellent meal at the Little Manor.
Wednesday 15th November 2023 – Social – Bowling Section “End of Season” Dinner
The Rex Crown Green Bowling Section met at the Dun Cow, Ollerton for their annual “End of Season” Dinner. Roger Collins the Bowls Section captain thanked everyone for their support over the season on what was the best season results wise since he took over the captaincy. A very sociable evening was enjoyed by everyone with excellent food on offer.
Thursday 9th November – Club Meeting – Speaker, Mr Steve Shakeshaft, who gave a talk entitled ‘Chester Uncovered 2’.
Steve presented a slide show of lesser-known interesting buildings and places in Chester which members may want to visit with friends and family.
Thursday 2nd November 2023 – Walk – Little Bollington and Dunham Massey
Despite weather forecasts of heavy rain, the walk was completed before there was a necessity for any wet weather gear . The route showed this part of Cheshire in its Autumn splendour. An excellent meal followed at the Swan with 2 Nicks pub .
