Tuesday 27th February 2024 – Social – Annual Tea Party
The Annual Tea Party was once again held at the Knutsford Golf Club. 32 members and partners sat down with a glass of Prosecco, a selection of freshly-prepared sandwiches and freshly-baked scones and cakes.
The event proved to be a most enjoyable social occasion.
This is a popular event which is already in our calendar for 2025.
Thursday 22nd February 2024 – Speaker, Mr. Peter Turner, to give a talk entitled ‘Slight of Mind’.
Peter is a performing magician who entertains passengers on Cruise Ships in addition to “Close Up” magic at various functions. His topic of the Slight of Mind concentrated on the skill of auto suggestion. He gave examples by using members as “victims” of how minds can be manipulated as well as convincing more than 2/3rd’s of the audience to come up with the same answer in a number of questions.
Thursday 8th February 2024 – Club Meeting – Speaker, Julian Bond, who gave a talk entitled ‘Escape from Burma’.
Julian gave a talk on the true story of my family’s escape from Rangoon Burma in 1942 as the Japanese invaded and their eventual journey to India. It is also a love story of how his father who was an Armored car reservist also escaped and despite the odds against them managed to get married in a series of bizarre coincidences and luck. It also touches on the route followed by many that became known as The Road of Death as the monsoon broke. Both families had lived in the Far East since East India company days!
Thursday 1st February 2024 – Walk – Marbury Park Area
The Walking Group met to embark on which was a splendid 4.7 mile walk around Marbury Park. The route was reported to be very popular by the local dog walking fraternity. There was some amazement on the number of dogs these people would have on leads. Once completed the group adjourned to the Northwich Clocktower Pub.
