Thursday 25th April 2024 – Club Meeting – Speaker Mr John Hooley who had as his subject “A Nostalgic Look at Travel”.
It transpired that John is an enthusiast for photography and for all bygone modes of travel. His slide presentation covered the period from just after the First World War up to the 1960’s and included steam trains, trams, trolley buses, paddle steamers etc. in all their glory. The members were full of appreciation for the presentation as it brought back memories of times past to all of the audience.
Wednesday 24th April 2024 – Bowls – Rex Probus v Northwich & Weaver Probus
On a glorious Spring afternoon the bowlers of Knutsford Rex welcomed their friends from down the A556. There is always a healthy friendly competition for these fixtures and over the years the bowlers from both teams are often on first name terms.
The actual match was somewhat of a one sided affair with the Knutsford team taking a healthy lead for the half time break. The match continued in that vein for the second half with Knutsford coming out on top by 110 points to 71.
The Northwich/Weaver team will not have to wait long to seek some revenge as in two weeks Knutsford travel to Owley Wood where home advantage will be reversed.
Monday 22nd April 2024 – Social – Trip to Arley Hall and Gradens
Members met for an early morning coach outing to Arley Hall. Members visited the house with its fascinating history, taking in the ambiance of its remote and rural location and the influence of the family in the local area.
Thursday 18th April 2024 – Walk – Northwich Flashes
Todays outing took a few of the Knutsford Rex Probus walkers around the Northwich Flashes and into Marbury Country Park on a circular route devised by our Treasurer Allan Whitehead. Although the ground is still waterlogged and the pathways suffered frequent muddy patches we stopped for a nice coffee halfway round and retired afterwards for an excellent lunch at the Golden Pheasant in Plumley.
Tuesday 16th April 2024 – Bowls – Alderley Edge Probus v Rex Probus

The first match of the 2024 season took our bowlers to Alderley Edge Park to play our friends from Alderley Edge Probus
The green was somewhat damp from the recent poor weather and as our seasoned bowlers commented, “It was running slow.”
Midway through the match Knutsford held a very slender lead so it was all to play for in the second half.
With all pairings in the hut with the exception to one, the score was tight in favour of Alderley Edge by 76 points to 74. It looked all over for Rex as Alderley were leading 13-11 with first to 15. Rex bowlers Jim Flett and Alan Allcock however hung on in and with their colleagues cheering on managed to take the game to a 15-13 victory. A recount of the scores confirmed the match result as a draw 89-89. A thoroughly enjoyable morning.
Thursday 11th April 2024 – Speaker, Trevor Crawford, who gave a talk on the Northwest Air Ambulance Service.
Trevor began by explaining his own role as a Volunteer Presenter having decided to do some public speaking for charity and NW Air Ambulance seemed an excellent fit following on from his pastime as a private pilot.
Trevor explained the way the service operated with a professionals drawn from rotated NHS staff and Pilots on contract with aircraft leasing arrangements with Babcocks.
There are 17 Air Ambulance Charity Services in the UK which operate independently from the NHS and receive no government funding.
The Northwest Air Ambulance started in 1999 and now operates 3 helicopters from bases at Barton and Blackpool Airports. The helicopters only fly during the hours of daylight but the staff augment NHS services into the evening and early morning using highly equipped ‘Blue light’ paramedic vehicles. The helicopters assist normal ambulance services in situations where access can be difficult. The most frequent being large golf courses and off-road horse riding venues.
Thursday 4th April 2024 – Walk – Lower Peover
The Walking Group made it out again today to do a 5.5mile circular route around Lower Peover with a start and finish using the Bells of Peover country pub. It is hard to believe but many of the fields and footpaths are still waterlogged from so much rainfall in the past month. The group headed out past Lower Peover’s ‘Tree of Imagination’ and on towards the ‘Whipping Stocks’ where they picked up the Knutsford Drive up to Peover Hall for a coffee break before heading back towards the Bells of Peover for an excellent lunch.
