Despite the current difficulties it is pleasing that the collegiate attitude of our members, which underpins the philosophy of the Club, continues with many of the Club’s regular activities underway again. We are, of course, adhering to Government guidance and Law.
The bowlers are meeting on Mondays for friendly games with each other in accordance with official guidelines. The golfers are playing a round at Woodside, usually on Tuesdays. The walkers who traditionally walk on alternate Thursdays, have devised several 5 mile walks starting and finishing locally and these are followed by a picnic lunch and a beer in a member’s garden. The IT group has scheduled a meeting for early August using Zoom. The club’s website is continually updated and the “Chat” page and “Rex at Home” are viewed regularly by members. A few days ago, the Club’s committee held its quarterly meeting using “Zoom” and reported back to all the members. All members are contacted regularly by a nominated committee member to check on their wellbeing.
In all, I am immensely proud that many aspects of the Club’s activities are continuing to operate in difficult circumstances albeit in innovative ways. We all look forward to the time when we can reinstate our fortnightly club meetings with speakers along with recommencing our social events.
