25th November 2021 – Club Meeting, Speaker, Elizabeth Morris, to give a talk entitled ‘A Guest at the Knutsford Hotel’.
Knutsford Gaol and House of Correction
Elizabeth explained that she was born in Knutsford and is a professionally trained actor, writer and poet. She has developed her own unique performance style by getting into character to bring the story alive. She told the tale of a Knutsford woman, fallen on hard times, who finds herself a guest at the House of Correction in the 19th Century. Elizabeth then took questions from an appreciative audience.
18th November 2021 – Walk – Scholar Green
“Not a day for new boots” & “Time for a brew”
A ‘Jim Flett special’ 5 mile walk around Scholar Green. The walkers left the Bleeding Wolf pub at 10:00 returning for lunch after working up a good appetite. The walkers had the pleasure of meeting a lady taking a 19 week old Barn Owl, named Teasle, for a walk whilst standing on her gauntleted hand before seeing later a Kingfisher swooping low over the Macclesfield Canal. Splendid stuff.
11th November 2021 – Club Meeting Speaker, Peter Pennington, who gave a talk entitled ‘My Time with the Black & White Minstrels’.
Peter was with the Black and White Minstrels from 1967 to 1976 and gave a detailed account of his life and times. The talk was accompanied with Peter singing 2 songs and ended with a recording of an extract from one of the shows. Peter then took questions from an appreciative
4th November 2021 – Walk – Lower Peover
Jerry Bentley introduced a walk which commenced from the Bells of Peover for a 4.5 mile walk around Peover Inferior visiting Smithy Green, Tree of imagination, Free Green Lane and Peover Eye. The 6 walkers then finished the walk at the Bells of Peover in time for a good lunch.
