Thursday 26th May 2022 – Club Meeting – Speaker – Eric “Busker” Newton “His life and busking.”
Eric Newton Busking in Nantwich
Eric came to our regular twice monthly meeting at Mere and Tabley Club to play his clarinet interjected with anecdotes from his life in music. From a humble childhood to being a well known “busker” around the Potteries Eric was first class entertainment and was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
Wednesday 25th May 2022 – Bowls – Macclesfield 2 Probus
Rex Probus entertained members from Macclesfield 2 Probus on this afternoon. The weather had turned to provide a beautiful sunny day with the green in tip top condition. As the game progressed there was some good competition but in the end the guys from Knutsford came out well on top winning by 112 points to 62. Next week (Wed) Rex are at home again entertaining Wilmslow Fulshaw Probus starting at 14:00.
Thursday 19th May 2022 – Walk – Gawsworth
The walking group combined to take a more leisurely ramble through the pathways of Gawsworth.
The walk was for roughly 2 miles through fields and past fishponds with views to Gawsworth Church tower and The Cloud above Congleton.
The walkers then partook of an excellent lunch in the open air at the Harrington Arms Robinsons Pub at Gawsworth. [photo]
Wednesday 18th May 2022 – Bowls – Lymm Probus
Today our bowlers travelled to Outhrington to play the bowlers of Lymm Probus. This fixture is always the biggest challenge of the season as the home side are mostly regular bowlers on the Outhrington green. The conditions were excellent so with no excuses the Knutsford Rex players had to accept that on the day they were beaten by the better team by 120 points to 79. Next Wednesday Knutsford Rex entertain Macclesfield 2 Probus at their Knutsford Bowling Club home, start 14:00.
Thursday 12th May 2022 – Club Meeting – Speaker, John Hope, who gave a talk entitled ‘Time through the Ages’
John informed the Members that it was the Babylonians who decided on 60 seconds in a minute and the Egyptians who decided on 24 hours in a day. John then took the Members through the various methods throughout history of measuring time from the Sundial in 1500BC to the Atomic Clock in 1955.
Friday 6th May 2022 – Afternoon Tea – Knutsford Golf Club
Today thirty two Rex Probus members and guests enjoyed a sumptuous Afternoon Tea at Knutsford Golf Club. It was an excellent social occasion at which everyone was able to renew old friendships after two years of Lock Down!
Thursday 5th May 2022 – Walk – Alderley Edge to Armada Beacon
Five walkers met at the Drum & Monkey pub, Alderley Edge, for the 4.75 mile walk through the village, across fields to Welsh Row, up through the woods to the top at the Armada Beacon, admired the view from Castle Rock. The walkers then descended back to the pub for a well-deserved meal.
