Thursday 28th July 2022 – Club Meeting – Speaker who gave a talk entitled ‘Lucky Hitler’.
Geoff informed the Members that there were 42 attempts on Hitler’s life but none succeeded. He gave detailed information on 3 attempts: 1) The top German generals, led by General Hans Oster, were against Hitler’s warmongering and they devised a plan to remove Hitler. However, Britain and France gave in to all Hitler’s demands and the increasing popularity of Hitler in Germany resulted in the collapse of the Generals’ plans. 2) A carpenter, Johann Elser placed a bomb primed to explode half way through a speech Hitler was due to give. However, due to weather conditions, Hitler brought forward the timing of his speech and left 20 minutes before the bomb exploded. 3) Claus von Stauffenberg attended a meeting with Hitler and other top generals. He placed his briefcase, containing a bomb, next to Hitler’s chair but someone else, on tripping over the case, moved it further away. Hitler was wounded but survived.
A lively discussion followed the talk.

Wednesday 20th July 2022 – Bowls – Knutsford Rex v Weaverham Probus
Knutsford Rex bowlers were on a good run of form but all good things come to and end as they met their match at Owley Wood Bowling Club where they went down 59-79 to Weaverham Probus.
The game was played on a very dry green which was a great contrast to the Knutsford’s home turf. Still, the same for both teams as the saying goes.
Knutsford return to Weaverham in late August and they will be certainly out for revenge.

Wednesday 6th July 2022 – Bowls – Macclesfield 2 Probus v Knutsford Rex Probus
On a rather cloudy day the Siddington Village Hall bowling green weather could not deter from its splendour of one of the most picturesque greens in the area. Knutsford Rex bowlers look forward each season to meeting their friends from from Macclesfield 2 Probus in what is a friendly but competitive fixture. At the interval Knutsford built up a commanding lead from which the Macclesfield bowlers could not recover in the second half. The final score was 103 points to 71 in favour of Knutsford but as usual the result, although important, was not the prime objective of an enjoyable afternoon on the green.
