Judith then gave a very detailed description of the length of the Peak Forest and Macclesfield canals noting how locks worked and the necessity of building tunnels and aqueducts. The main features of the canals she explained were the aqueduct between Romiley and Marple, the Marple Locks and the Buxworth Basin near Whaley Bridge.
